Brad Hook, CEO -The Resilience Institute is our latest guest on the podcast. The Resilience Institute is a global organisation who deliver research based resilience solutions to build organisational resilience and strategic agility. They define resilience as the ability to bounce, grow, connect and flow.
Brad leads a team who provide training through workshops and digital toolkits designed to help people become more resilient and reach their potential.
A fascinating guy with a love of surfing since 6 years old, Brad set off from his native South Africa to London in the hopes of becoming a surf photographer. He is a self -taught digital developer, and these skills have allowed him to travel the world working, photographing, writing, and surfing. Brad is ‘In his Element’ when he can get into flow state – from leading a workshop to catching a wave. He loves the ocean which he says has taught hm many skills including courage and patience.
Brad’s writing has been featured in international business and travel magazines, including several cover stories. He has authored multiple books and presents keynotes, seminars and workshops. He founded Surfd.com surfing magazine in 2002 and continues to work on creative projects including directing a documentary about the transformative power of surf therapy.
The Resilience Institute has authored a Global Resilience Report detailing results from over 21,000 assessments from across the world. This report demonstrates critical themes in resilience and how they relate to safety, resilience and productivity. The report is available from their website (below), and makes fascinating reading.
The quotes he chose to share with our listeners,
“The goal of life is to make your heartbeat match the beat of the universe, to match your nature with Nature.” Joseph Campbell
“You are a function of what the whole universe is doing in the same way that a wave is a function of what the whole ocean is doing.” Alan Watts
So many gems to highlight in just 30 minutes. Tune in to the full episode.
